Separating Audio and Video for Editing in Camtasia

1 min read

When you add a Camtasia recording to the timeline, the file is automatically divided into two tracks: one for video and one for audio.

Understanding the Tracks: #

Track 1 contains the visual (video) portion of the file.

Track 2 contains the audio portion of the file.

Editing Audio Only: #

If you want to edit the audio alone, you can remove the video by right-clicking on Track 1 (the video track) and selecting Remove Track. Confirm by clicking Yes. You’ll now only be working with the audio.

To bring back the video, simply use the Undo option.

Editing Video Only: #

Similarly, to edit only the video, right-click Track 2 (the audio track) and select Remove Track. This will leave you with just the video to work with.

You can restore the audio track by using Redo or Undo.

Turning Off Specific Tracks: #

If you want to focus on one track, you can turn off the audio or video. For example, to work with the video only, turn off Track 2 (audio) and edit the video as needed.

Move the cursor to the point where you want to make the edit, adjust the video, and remove any unwanted sections by dragging the handle.

Adding New Visuals: #

If you want to add a new video to the timeline while keeping the existing audio, import the new video, drag it to the timeline, and stretch it to match the length of the audio.

After making your adjustments, turn the audio back on, save your project, and export the final file.

By separating and editing the audio and video tracks, you can easily fine-tune each element without affecting the other.
