Splitting clips is one of the most versatile editing techniques in CapCut, allowing you to precisely isolate, edit, or rearrange sections of your footage. Whether you want to add transitions, remove unwanted portions, or insert new clips, splitting gives you the flexibility to craft a polished final product. Follow these simple steps to split a clip in CapCut.
Step 1: Select the Clip #
First, tap on the video clip in the timeline to ensure it is selected. A white frame will appear around the clip, confirming that it’s ready for editing.
Step 2: Use the Split Tool #
Move the playhead (the vertical line on the timeline) to the exact point where you want to split the clip. Then, tap the Split icon located at the bottom of the CapCut interface.
The clip will instantly be divided into two separate segments. You can now edit each section independently, giving you complete control over your video.
What You Can Do After Splitting a Clip #
Splitting clips opens up a range of editing possibilities:
- Add Transitions: After creating a split, you can add smooth transitions between the two clips. This is ideal for creating seamless cuts or enhancing the flow of your video.
- Remove Unwanted Parts: To delete a section you no longer need, tap the split clip to select it, then hit the Delete icon at the bottom of the screen. The remaining clips will automatically shift to close the gap, maintaining a continuous sequence.
- Insert New Clips: Splitting allows you to create space for additional footage. After splitting the clip, simply import a new video and place it between the two segments.
