Before you begin using the recorder in Camtasia, it’s important to configure the recorder’s settings to best suit your needs.
Step 1: Accessing Preferences
Navigate to the Tools menu and select Preferences.
Step 2: Customizing File Saving Options
One key setting is determining where your files will be saved. To be cautious, it’s best to set Camtasia to prompt you for a file name each time you save a recording. While this adds an extra step, it’s the most conservative option. If you experience crashes after long use, you may want to enable automatic file saving to avoid losing progress.
Step 3: Adjusting Input Settings
Under the Inputs tab, make sure your audio and video inputs are set correctly. For shortcut preferences, you can set F9 to pause and F10 to stop the recording. This allows you to control your recording without needing to interrupt your screen presentation.
Step 4: Recording Audio and Video
To record audio from your system (e.g., sound from applications running on your computer), ensure System Audio is toggled on. If you prefer not to capture system audio, toggle this option off. Under the Microphone setting, select your desired microphone from the dropdown menu. For webcam recording, toggle the Webcam option on and select the webcam you wish to use. If you’re not using a webcam, simply toggle it off.
Step 5: Recording Multiple Screens
If you’re working with multiple monitors, you can choose which screen to record and adjust the recording dimensions in the Screen section.
Once you’ve customized these settings, you’ll be ready to start your screen or webcam recording with Camtasia.
By following these steps, you can begin recording and editing with ease in Camtasia.
