Recording Basics: PowerPoint in Camtasia (Part 1)

2 min read

In this guide, we’ll explore how to record your PowerPoint presentation using the Camtasia add-in for PowerPoint.

Setting Up Camtasia Add-In: #

If you’ve installed the Camtasia add-in for PowerPoint, you’ll see a set of TechSmith controls in PowerPoint. These controls allow you to record your presentation directly into Camtasia.

Recording Your Presentation: #

To start recording, click the Record button in the add-in.

Before you begin, you can adjust the settings for your PowerPoint recording in Camtasia. You can also choose to record your screen at the same time, though this can be more logistically challenging.

Starting the Recording: #

Click Record, and the Camtasia toolbar will disappear as the recording begins. As you present your PowerPoint slides, Camtasia will capture everything on-screen.

Stopping the Recording: #

Once you’ve finished recording, Camtasia will prompt you to save the file. Afterward, the recording will be added to your Media Bin in Camtasia.

Editing the Recording: #

Drag the recorded video to the timeline and zoom in for a closer view. You’ll see markers at each slide change. These markers are automatically created when recording PowerPoint, making it easier to navigate through the presentation.

You can use the Marker Timeline to quickly jump to specific slides and make edits. For example, dragging to a marker will show the specific slide at that point in the video.

Advantages of Using PowerPoint with Camtasia: #

One of the key advantages of recording with PowerPoint is that the markers allow you to quickly jump between slides during the editing process, making it easier to fine-tune your video.

If you choose to add screen recording features, it’s possible but requires extra effort to integrate it with your PowerPoint presentation.

Once the recording is complete, you can edit the video as usual, adding effects, annotations, transitions, and adjusting the audio.
