Start here when what you’re making determines what the music needs to do.
These collections organize music around the structure and purpose of the content, from short intros and paid ads to explainers, tutorials, podcasts, documentaries, interviews, event recaps, and vlogs. The goal is to choose the right collection before you compare individual tracks.
When to Choose Music by Content Type
Choose by video or content type when the role of the music changes with the way the project is built.
A short opening cue has a different job from music under a narrated tutorial. An advertising edit needs a different structure from a documentary. A portfolio reel and an event recap may both use montage editing, but they are trying to communicate different things.
Start with this pillar when you already know what you are producing and need a collection designed around that job.
Choose another browse path when a different question comes first:
- Genre & Style: the musical identity is already clear.
- Mood & Energy: the emotional direction or intensity is the main requirement.
- Industry & Use Case: the subject matter or business context matters most.
- Platform: the publishing destination is the strongest constraint.

Documentary Music vs Interview and Testimonial Music
Choose Documentary Music when interviews are part of a broader factual narrative that also needs atmosphere, emotional nuance, or controlled tension.
Choose Interview and Testimonial Music when the speaker and their credibility are the main focus and dramatic documentary tension would be too strong.
Intro and Outro Music vs Background-Music Collections
Choose Intro and Outro Music when you need a short musical bookend with its own opening or closing role.
Choose a background-focused collection when the music needs to continue through the body of the content. For spoken projects, that may mean Podcast Background Music, Voiceover and Narration Music, Educational Video Music, or another collection matched to the structure of the project.
Five Things to Check Before Choosing a Collection
1. Identify the main structure of the content
Start with the job the piece is doing. Is it explaining, teaching, demonstrating, promoting, documenting, interviewing, showcasing, or recapping?
That distinction usually narrows the field faster than choosing a genre first.
2. Decide how important speech is
A podcast, narrated explainer, tutorial, interview, and documentary can all contain speech, but speech plays a different role in each.
Choose the collection that matches the structure around the speech, not simply the fact that somebody is talking.
3. Look at the shape of the edit
Some projects need steady support. Others need fast recognition, visual transitions, or a clear build toward a payoff.
A short ad, a portfolio montage, and a product launch can all feel energetic while still requiring different musical roles.
4. Separate promotional purpose from content format
An ad and a promo video are both promotional, but the advertising collection is built around a more immediate campaign job. Promo Video Music gives progression and payoff a larger role.
Likewise, a product demo and an explainer can both educate the viewer, but one demonstrates a product while the other explains an idea or process.
5. Use length as a constraint, not the whole category
A short piece is not automatically an intro. A long piece is not automatically educational or documentary.
First identify what the music must do. Then use the length and pacing of the finished edit to narrow the tracks inside the chosen Collection.
